Here are the homework expectations for the students in Totara for 2012.
Reading
Children in Year 2 should be reading every night. Your child should bring home a reading book every night, this may be one which has been read in class or from their browsing box. Reading should be recorded in their homework book and signed off each night.
Sight words or Spelling
Children who have yet to master their sight words lists will be given words to learn for the week. Each week they will be given 5 words which will be tested at school on Friday. The next week they will be given another 5 as well as making sure they can still remember the 5 from the previous week. After 3 weeks if a student has mastered their words these will be removed from the list and they will no longer need to review those words at home.
Once they have mastered their sight words list, the same process will begin with spelling words.
Basic Facts
Each week children will have a basic facts aspect to their homework - either facts to learn or an activity to help consolidate learning.
